About This Spot

Stepping into The Luxe Box, you’re welcomed by an inviting warmth that feels like a gathering of good friends and family rather than just another meal out. Nestled on a busy Oakland avenue, this soul food spot carries an unhurried rhythm, where the patience it takes to savor thoughtfully prepared dishes becomes part of the experience itself. The scent of home-cooked comfort mingles with laughter and casual chatter, creating a space that nurtures both appetite and connection.

The Luxe Box is that kind of place where the atmosphere invites you to slow down — to appreciate the tender richness simmering in each plate and the care folded into every order. It’s a neighborhood gem that carries a soulful ease, a spot where locals come for the familiar notes of yams, collard greens, and oxtails that hang with you long after the last bite. The friendly presence behind the counter, ready with a warm smile and genuine ease, adds a human dimension that complements the flavors beautifully.

Menu highlights are more than just food here; they’re an invitation to share moments — the sticky, vibrant glaze of honey and shrimp on salmon, the comforting embrace of cheesy, creamy mac and cheese folded with plump shrimp, or the tender yield of slow-cooked oxtails that melt into the greens and yams. These dishes hold stories of tradition and celebration, each plate an offer to partake in something soulful and authentic.

Whether you’ve come by to take a break from the Oakland hustle or to gather with loved ones, The Luxe Box strikes a balance between genuine soul food craft and the neighborhood’s warm, grounded spirit. The experience unfolds not just in the flavors but in the quiet joy of returning to a sense of community and comfort found in every thoughtful detail.

Prefacing this with I am NOT from the area. First, I want to highlight the service. The young lady that was working the window today (Mar 20th) was so sweet and had a really positive attitude. This is important because, well, this is Oakland. The wait for the food will typically be about 30-40 minutes so I highly recommend placing your order online and picking up when the time nears. This is NOT a dine-in restaurant. You approach the window, grab your plate and GO. I love this model personally. Too many food service businesses try and do the bar/nightclub thing, sometimes it’s just too much. Also recommend keeping an eye on their instagram as they post when they’re sold out of something or if the hours are altered. This is a well-operated black-owned, small business and I had no hesitation spending my dollars here. Now for the food quality: I got the Basa fish combo. I wasn’t TOO crazy about the fish and wish it was fried harder which, i’m sure if you asked they’d accommodate. The flavor was there and it had some crunch. The shrimp was delicious. The star of the show, in my opinion were the YAMS and COLLARD GREENS. I’m from the South and it was really nice to have found a place out west that sells true soul comforting food. The Strawberry Passion luxenade was on point (THANK YOU for not making it taste like liquid diabetes!) Overall 8/10 Expect to spend about $40-$50. Again, the Quality is there.

Honestly the best soul food I have had in years. Ox tail was the true meaning of tendernisim, and for 35 bucks, you can not beat it. mac and cheese was perfect, greens were on point, fire red beans and the shrimp, OMFG. These guys know what they are doing. An absolute must stop for authentic soul food. And they do catering or single plates.
